PRESS RELEASE
ESTATE GIVES PROCEEDS FROM SALE OF BUILDING TO THE LOCAL COMMUNITY
The Old Mission Hall in Leurbost has been sold by Soval Estate and all the proceeds,
amounting to over £30000, have been divided between Lochs Free Church and North
Lochs Community Association. Richard Kershaw, the owner of Soval, said “the Mission
Hall had ceased to be used and, while it was owned by the Estate, it seemed much more
appropriate that the capital produced from the sale should go back to both the church and
the local community. I am delighted that this will be put to good use within the local area’’
Soval Estate has been in the same family for three generations and employs up to ten
people during the summer months with five full time jobs. Soval Lodge was totally
redeveloped eleven years ago enabling bookings to be built up to where it is now let to
parties on a full board and lodging basis thus making a valuable contribution to the local
economy.
Murdo Macleod, Session Clerk of Lochs Free Church, said “this generous contribution is a
significant boost which will go a long way towards strengthening and sustaining the work of
the church in this community into the future. As proprietors of Soval, Richard and Marie
Kershaw have long demonstrated their support to the local community and this gesture is
a very tangible expression of that support for which we as a congregation are extremely
grateful.’’
Iain Macaskill, Chairperson of the North Lochs Community Association, said “following a
very trying seventeen months for the local community, NLCA is once again grateful to
Richard and Marie of Soval for maintaining their support for North Lochs Community
Centre by making a substantial donation towards our running costs. This will enable us to
continue to provide a space which people of all ages can utilise.’’

NORTH LOCHS 5K CANCELLED
Due to an increase of Covid-19 cases in North Lochs, we have decided to cancel the 5K event this Saturday to help prevent further spread at what would have been our first community event.
A refund will be issued to those who bought tickets. We ask for your patience as it may take 5-10 working days to process.
Covid may have stopped us in our tracks for Saturday, but please continue with the village walks this lovely week and send us your pictures for when it feels safer to be together.
Volunteer Thank You
As we come to the end of Volunteers Week, I would just like to thank all our committee members and the people of the North Lochs area who over the last 15months have stepped up in one way or another to make a difference.
Our Foodbank, Prescription delivery drivers and our shopping volunteers who made a difference for so many people in those first few months of lockdown. Our new committee who do so much work behind the scenes to make sure all our varied activities run smoothly.
I would also like to thank the local businesses who stepped up to help with their own contributions that helped the N. L. C. A. achieve so much.
Finally, I would like to thank the unknown individuals in our community, who volunteer in their own way everyday, getting a newspaper or some groceries, making a quick phone call to a neighbour to see how they are. All these small acts of kindness add up to so much over time.
